This list of print on demand companies is something I’ve needed for a long time. You’ll find lists out there but they only talk about the big players, not the specialized POD companies, so that’s what I’ve put together! A giant list of Print on demand companies (big and little companies) that will take your design and print it on their product … so that you can sell it in your online store!

Difference Between Print on Demand and Drop Shipping?
They are very similar! Basically, the only difference is that with print on demand you are customizing the product with your own designs.
With drop-shopping you just buy and sell products that are already finished and ready to sell.
What is Drop Shipping?
With drop shopping you can sell another company’s products without carrying any inventory. A customer sees the product in your online store and places an order. Then you place the order (often with an automatic integration) with the drop shipping company at wholesale price. You keep the difference between the wholesale price and the retail price your customer paid. The drop shipper company sends the order directly to your customer.
What is Print on Demand or POD?
With print on demand, there is one extra element – the element of customizing the product with your artwork. It could be your logo, an illustration, a repeating pattern, or an inspirational quote. Whatever it is get’s printed, embroidered, etched, etc. onto the product before it gets sent to your customer.
For both dropshipping and print on demand, you don’t have to keep any physical inventory.
Many of these print on demand drop shipping companies have integrations and apps that work seamlessly with major ecommerce platforms like Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, etc. That means that as soon your online store receives a customer purchase, it automatically will place an order with the supplier as soon as you receive a customer order. It just happens magically behind the scenes.
However, not all print on demand companies have these integrations, but there is a trick to getting around that so you don’t have to keep any physical stock on hand. Whenever you get a purchase from a customer, you immediately place the order manually with the POD supplier. But instead of your address, you put your customer’s shipping address on it. It is more of a manual process, but it still saves you space, time, and usually money.
Why do people love print on demand and drop shipping?
- Because you can have an entire online store full of thousands of products without ever having to receive, unpack, fold, store, package, or ship anything!
- You don’t have to purchase the products ahead of time, which would cost so much! You only pay when you sell an item.
- With POD you don’t have to make the products yourself which would take wayyyyy too long and make them very expensive.
- It allows you to live and work anywhere in the world with your online print on demand, drop shipping store.
- You can build a brand, a fashion line, with your own unique style of creativity and art, without having to go to fashion design school or learning how to sew.
All you do is simply upload your designs onto the products you like, set your price, add them to your store, and voila!
If you haven’t tried it yet, please do, because it’s so fun! You’ll be addicted seeing your designs on home goods, clothing, wall art.
Consider downloading this list of print on demand companies so you can have it next to you as you do your research on which ones are the best for your particular needs.

How to Create Designs For Your Print On Demand Products
There are many ways, some more involved than others.
TESTING THE WATERS – Use the designer widget of the print on demand company.
Many of these companies will have a very basic designer built into their product templates. You can select fonts, type some text, choose your colors, and possibly add some icons or basic graphics. This actually works fine if you have a minimalist brand with just words and a specific branded font.
HOBBYIST – Use Canva to make some designs!
I love Canva because it’s so user friendly and has a huge library of graphic elements, photographs, and fonts to use.
The free version of Canva is excellent, but I personally think it’s worth it to purchase the monthly subscription which isn’t much more than $12 or $13 a month.
Create a design in Canva, export it in a high quality jpeg or png file and then upload it onto the POD product. It’s that easy!
Make sure your design looks good on the mockup – is it centered? Does the color work with the base color of the product?
Then order a sample to make sure it looks just as good in person before you add it to your store.
PRO CHOICE – Use Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard for fabric designers and graphic designers. And it’s not that hard to use if you learn some basics.
Plus, if you’re remembering how it costs a few hundred dollars back in the day, well things have changed! You can now use it on a subscription basis for about $25 to $30 a month. Which is a good price if you’re truly using this to turn your designs into an income stream.
You can do AMAZING things with illustrator from your own sketches, paintings, and photographs.
You can even make repeating designs like you would see on fabric, wall paper, clothing, cell phone cases, etc.
This option of using Adobe Illustrator has the most potential for you as a designer. You can do ANYTHING with it and if you’re serious about starting a print on demand shop then I highly recommend you take a course to learn how to use Adobe Illustrator to it’s full potential.
Recurring Income from POD
Usually as artists we can only make as much money as the number of items we make by hand and then sell.
But with digital art and print on demand items, we can make a digital design (that may have started out with a pen or painting) then keep make a recurring income from the sales of those items… items we don’t have to make over and over or even stock inventory ourselves.
It’s a beautiful thing isn’t it?
Money for Makers
I love showing other artists, DIY-ers, and maker-types of people how to make money with your craft.
