This easy and cheap DIY Halloween wreath is a super simple dollar store decor project! I got all the supplies at our local Dollar Tree store (aside from my glue gun). I’m all about DIY Halloween decor because you can customize and personalize it to your own style with just a few tweaks. When we’re done with this tutorial, you’ll have your very own handmade Halloween wreath! So let’s get started!
Halloween Wreath Overview
Difficulty: Easy!!!
Time: 30 minutes or so
Cost: Under $10
Supplies
- Spider web bowl (Dollar Tree)
- Spooky plastic flowers with eyeball centers (Dollar Tree)
- Regular plastic flowers (Dollar Tree)
- Light Up Sparkly Owl (Dollar Tree)
- Battery Powered string lights (Dollar Tree)
- Hot glue gun, glue, scissors
I chose a mix of spooky florals and regular florals. I freakin love these purple roses with eyeball centers from the Dollar Tree. I’ve seen them there for the last couple Halloweens, so I’m hoping they will be easily found by you, too. I mixed them in with regular florals so you get the surprise factor. It looks like a regular wreath until someone gets close and notices an eyeball tucked in there. 🙂
Trim The Flowers To Size For The DIY Halloween Wreath
I started by cutting off the flowers from the stems, pretty close to the base. Leaves and sprigs of leaves I’d cut at longer lengths. I made a nice little pile of cuttings before I started putting the DIY halloween wreath together.
Gather your supplies together to gluing the flowers on your base. There are lots of options for your wreath frame, but I decided to use this fun spider web bowl from the dollar store. If you don’t want the spider bowl, then you can buy a wire wreath frame, or a foam frame from Dollar Tree, too, for your DIY Halloween Wreath.
Glue The Spooky Flowers Onto Your Wreath Frame
Heat your glue gun up for a few minutes and then start with one kind of flower. Glue it on your spider web bowl wreath frame randomly but somewhat evenly spaced around the frame. Don’t worry about the strings of hot glue that look like spiderwebs. It kind of ads to the theme!
First I glued all one kind of flower around the frame, kind of evenly spaced. Finish gluing that one kind of flower before you start on another kind. Next I added some leaves in between those flowers. Then I came back in with another kind of flower and added that in, evenly but randomly. Step back and check that everything looks pretty even, no blank spaces or heavy areas.
Add A Focal Point To Your DIY Halloween Wreath
By now, your wreath looks awesome as it is. But it’s all the same and you need a focal point to grab your viewer’s attention! Also at the dollar store, I found these fun string lights and light up sparkly owls. I got a pink owl and a black owl just to see which I liked better. It’s still up in the air which is better.
Let’s add a focal point with this fun glitter owl and string lights I also got at the dollars store.
I got a pink owl and a black owl just to see which I liked better. It’s still up in the air which is better. I feel like the pink owl does stand out more and kind of pulls out the purples of the flowers. But the black is awesome, too, and the owl eyes glow out from the dark so well! What do you think? Which do you like better?
What do you think? Which do you like better?
Unfortunately, I forgot to add the string lights before taking photos with the pink owl. 🙁 So try to use your imagination.
This diy Halloween project is sure to be a hit with your trick-or-treaters, and party guests!
Actually, you can do more than just use this as a wreath. It can also be a candy bowl. After all, it was a spider bowl to begin with. Just flip it over and fill it with candy!
Halloween Wedding Decoration?!
As I was looking for halloween projects on Pinterest, I noticed that one popular search phrase is for halloween weddings. That never crossed my mind! But this diy halloween wreath would be a perfect wedding decoration, too. They could be table centerpieces at a halloween wedding, or just hung on the wall as halloween decoration, too. The possibilities are endless!
Okay, so clearly, this fun project can is super versatile and can be used in a lot of ways and for different spooky occasions.
Plus, you can get creative on what kind of focal point you add to the wreath. Do you prefer to add a giant spider? Maybe a bat? I hope you try this fun halloween craft and let me know how it goes. I love to see photos, too.
Thanks for stopping by!

Can I buy this from you??
Girls Build Club says
If I still had it I would sell it, but I actually gave it to a friend! Sorry!

How did you attach the owl? Did you create a shelf for it to sit on?
Girls Build Club says
It had enough of a ledge with the wreath that it was able to sit there. If you’re putting it on a door or some surface that will shake or move I’d use some hot glue to attach it. Hope that helps!

How do you hang it on your door?
Girls Build Club says
You can buy a simple wreath hanger that slips over the top of your door and has a hook for your wreath to hang from. They are pretty cheap and can be found at Hobby Lobby or any of those kinds of craft stores. Great question!

This is adorable! I will be going to the dollar tree tomorrow to see if I can replicate it. I’ve been wanting to decorate for Halloween so bad lately but everything I look at is sooo expensive. I’m excited to try this!
Girls Build Club says
I’ve been to mine recently and they had the spiderweb bowl and eyeball flowers, so I hope yours does, too! Have fun!
